The Colosseum was an amphitheater built of concrete and sand. It was used to hold spectator sports and games, religious and celebratory events. The exact date it was built is unknown but Domitia Antoninus's family, the Trajanus', are well-known investors having contributed most of the building materials to erect the amphitheater.
