The Blue Madjai arc
Harnuphis travels to Wagadú Mandé to find Iya.
Iya first appears on the front cover of 20s A Difficult Age: The Blue Madjai standing next to Harnuphis with white wool, black eyes and pink ears.
Iya in the native Yoruba tongue can translate to mean "mother". Iya is also a play on the word "Aya", an adinkra symbol originally created by the Ashanti and the Gyaman in West Africa which means "fern".
The "Aya" symbol is a symbol of endurance and resourcefulness. The fern is a hardy plant that can grow in difficult places. "An individual who wears this symbol suggests that he has endured many adversities and outlasted much difficulty."
Agutan in the same language means "lamb". Together "Iya Agutan" translates to "The Lamb" and in some cases "Mother Lamb".
